How to get from Krakow to Slovakia?

Traveling from Krakow to Slovakia may be a challenge. The public transportation between Poland and Slovakia remains still the worst amongst all our other neighbors, even though a lot of people need to get from one country to another. The need of better transport connections is even higher as the Krakow Airport is developing extremely quickly nowadays and lot of travelers decide to fly to Krakow.

Travel by Bus

Krakow – Ružomberok

There is only 1 direct bus connection. It´s operated by a private company – Leo Express. You can travel from Krakow to the town of Ružomberok – in norther region of Liptov. The bus from Krakow Airport goes 3 times a day:

at 7:30

– at 13:50

– at 21:45

You can buy the tickets in advance at www.le.cz where you can choose from 3 pick up places – Krakow Airport, Plac Jana Matejki and bus station MDA. The bus ticket costs about 20 EUR/person and the ride takes 2 and ½ hours – 3 hrs. The bus will drop you off at the train station.

From Ružomberok you can easily travel to the High Tatras, Košice or Bratislava by train. You don´t even need to buy the tickets in advance. You can buy the tickets directly at the cash desk at train station.

Krakow – Poprad (Tatra mountains) – Košice

The private company – Leo Express launched also bus line from Krakow to the town of Poprad, which is situated really close to the Tatra mountains. You can buy the tickets at www.le.cz where you can choose from 2 pick up places – Krakow Airport and the main bus station in the city center.  There are 3 departures at 7:00, 11:45 and 17:05. But you should check it yourself, because they may change the departure times. You can buy the tickets online.

Once you are in Poprad, you can easily travel to the Tatra mountains by local train. The train goes at least once in an hour.

Or you can travel directly to the biggest city of the East Slovakia – to Košice.

Krakow – Zakopane – Poprad

There is a seasonal bus connection Zakopane in Poland and Poprad. It means that you can even travel from Krakow to Zakopane by train and then take a bus to Poprad to Slovakia. The bus operates from 16th June till 15th October and goes 4 times a day. The first bus leaves at 6:05 and the last one goes at 16:05 The journey takes almost 2 hours. You will surely get more information about the bus stops in Zakopane in one of numerous tourist information centers.

The bus stops in Zakopane, where you can get on the bus to Poprad:

  1. Nowy Dworzec, platform 11
  2. Al. 3. Maja górne
  3. ul. Zamoiskiego, Watra
  4. ul. Balzera Nosal
  5. Cyrhla

Private transfer

The other possibility is to book a private transfer from Krakow to the town of Poprad or some other place according to your wishes. The town of Poprad is located at the foot of the High Tatras. The price for one way transfer from Krakow to Poprad is around 60 EUR per/car. Here is the website of the company. Travel by train to Bratislava

You can also travel by train from Krakow to Bratislava via Czech Republic. Not all of them are direct, so you will need to make a change somewhere. The night train leaving Krakow at 22:00 is direct and arrives to Bratislava at 5:36 in the morning. You can find the train tickets HERE.
