All about the Self-Guided Weekend Trekking in High Tatras.

If you would like to do a short adventure break and escape the city, this trip is designated right for you. The High Tatras are the most famous and most beautiful mountains of Slovakia. In only 3 days you can enjoy every aspect of these mountains. There are several possibilities of what you can do. You can either ascent to the highest peak of Poland – 2 500 m high Rysy peak, lay on the shore of the biggest and deepest lake of the High Tatras, or walk the famous Tatranska Magistrala trail. You will learn more about these options in the detailed documentation that you will obtain.

You will spend 2 nights in a mountain hotel, built on the shore of a lake and I highly recommend you to walk around the lake after the dinner, find some nice spot and enjoy the sun set.

For this tour you need to be reasonably fit, as walking with a heavy backpack requires certain level of physical fitness. The hike to the peak Rysy involves also the elements of scrambling, so previous experience with scrambling are welcomed.

This tour is available from 15th June till 31st October.

Tip: Walking with a heavy backpack is much easier with hiking poles, so I recommend you to get a pair.

  1. Day1 Hike to the hotel

The hotel is not situated in a village or a settlement, but right in the middle of nature. That´s why you will have to walk for about 2 hrs to get there. The hotel is situated on the shore of a lake and evening walk around the lake is something, what I highly recommend to do.

On this day you need to arrive to the village of Štrbské pleso, which is reachable by train. This is a starting point of your weekend adventure. You will learn everything in the detailed documentation.

It´s possible to arrange the transfer to Štrbské pleso if needed.

    Overnight: Popraske lake Mountain hotel

  2. Day2 Whole Day Hike

Today you can choose from couple of hikes to walk. The most difficult is definitely the ascent to the peak Rysy – 2 500 m high, which is the highest peak of Poland. The other option is the ascent to the biggest and deepest lake of the High Tatras – the Hincovo Lake, followed by the ascent to the peak Koprovsky stit – 2 363 m high. This peak is little bit lower, but the view is just as spectacular as from the peak Rysy.

    Overnight: Popradske lake Mountain Hotel

  3. Day3 Coming back

After breakfast you will walk back to the village of Štrbske pleso. You will take the train and go back to the airport or somewhere else.

Popradske Lake Mountain Hotel

You will spend 2 nights in this hotel. It is situated in the altituted of 1 494 meters. We always try to book the twin room, but as the mountain hotel has only limited capacity, sometimes we are able to book only the room for 6-8 people.

I recommend you to have a good pair of waterproof hiking boots with ankle support. Even if the day is sunny, the weather can change quickly and you can end up walking in rain. Therefore you also need to have a waterproof jacket or a raincoat and some dry spare clothes. Also don´t forget about warm clothes even in summer, because temperature in the mountains is lower.

No, you don´t need any special gear, but walking with a heavy backpack is much easier, if you are using walking poles.
