Surprisingly, Slovakation is not going to stay in Slovakia only and the first trip abroad heads to Tenerife, the biggest of the Canarian Islands. We will avoid the most touristy places and instead we will visit less popular (but much more interesting) places. We will spend the entire trip in the north side of the island, which is the greener part and a real paradise for hiking.
We will hike in two rural parks – Anaga mountains (UNESCO Bioshpere Reserve) and Teno mountains (famous Masca village and gorge), which belong to the greenest parts of the island. Both areas are stunning with plenty of endemic flowers, rugged terrain and coastline, steep-walled gorges, rugged coastline and black volcanic beaches.
They say March and April is the best time to go for hiking in Tenerife. The temperature will be very pleasant – around 20°C and plenty of blooming flowers. If we will be lucky enough and the temperature will be even bit warmer, we may end up at the beach in the afternoon after hiking.
We will stay in 2 different places. First 3 nights will be spend in 4* Hotel Laguna Nivaria, which is situated in historic town of San Cristobal de La Laguna. This town is listed in UNESCO World Heritage, so there are plenty of things to explore in the evenings with many bars and restaurants. La Laguna will be our base for hikes in Anaga mountains. Afterwards we will move to Puerto de la Cruz in the north side of the island and will stay in 3* Hotel San Borondon. Puerto de la Cruz is a famous holidays spot, because of beautiful black sand beaches.
The hikes that we are going to walk on this trip will be of medium difficulty. Everyday we will walk approx. 12-15 km with the total vertical ascent of 600-800 metres. Some of the hikes involves short part of scrambling, so previous experience with scrambling is welcomed. The hiking trails in Tenerife are sometimes rocky with loose rocks, therefore a good pair of hiking boots with ankle support is a must.
We will meet at Tenerife Sourth Airport (TFS), but you can also fly to Tenerife North Airport (TFN), which is on our way and we can pick you up there.
